나를 찾는 여정, ‘섬세이 테라리움’

우리는 섬세이의 장점을 공간에 풀어내기 위해, 브랜드의 특별한 이야기에 집중했다. 섬세이는 샤워 후에 가볍게 몸을 말리는 제품인 ‘바디 드라이어’를 선두로, 주로 맨몸이나 맨발로 마주하게 되는 제품들이 있다. 일상 속 쉽게 스쳐가는 많은 제품 중에서 가장 우리의 몸과 가까운 브랜드라는 점에 주목했다. 맨몸으로 섬세이 위로 올라서면 바람이 불고, 그 바람은 서서히 우리의 감각을 일깨운다.

감각이 깨어난다는 것은 자신의 신체를 감각의 주체로서 인식하는 것에서 스스로 감각에 의해 끊임없이 재정의 되는 존재임을 깨닫는 과정이다. 김춘수 시인의 꽃처럼, 어린 왕자의 장미꽃처럼, 섬세이는 발끝에서부터 감각을 일깨우며 끊임없이 우리의 존재를 환기하고 있었고, 이것이 우리가 섬세이의 공간을 풀어낼 핵심 요소라고 생각했다.

우선, 권태로운 감각들로 채워진 우리의 일상을 환기하고, 익숙하지 않은 감각들을 깨우려면, 우리의 몸을 무(無)의 상태로 되돌릴 필요가 있다. 그리고 의도적으로 감각을 천천히 열어 줌으로써, 감각의 겹(Layer of Sense)을 스스로 쌓아 나가는 경험을 느낄 수 있도록 하였다. 층별로 다른 감각을 열어주는 공간을 기획하고. 계단실은 다음 공간을 암시할 수 있도록 의도하였다. 각 층은 각각의 공간적, 시간적 배경이 녹아 있는데, 이는 감각을 점층적으로 열어 줄 때, 관람객이 보다 공감할 수 있도록 하기 위함이다. 감각 뿐만 아니라 공간의 맥락에 한번 더 공감할 때, 그 속에서 느끼는 경험이 극대화 될 수 있다고 생각했다.

To translate SOMSEI’s essence into a spatial experience, we focused on telling the brand’s unique story. SOMSEI’s leading product, the Body Dryer, is used to gently dry the body after a shower, and many of its products are ones that people encounter with bare skin or bare feet. Among the countless objects that pass us by in daily life, SOMSEI stands out as the brand that stays closest to the human body. When you step onto SOMSEI with bare feet, the wind begins to blow—and that wind slowly awakens your senses.

To have one’s senses awakened is to recognize the body as the subject of perception, and through that awareness, to understand oneself as a being constantly redefined by sensation. Like the poet Kim Chun-su’s Flower, or the Little Prince’s rose, SOMSEI evokes our existence from the tips of our toes, endlessly reminding us of our presence. We saw this as the key concept to express within SOMSEI’s spatial narrative.

First, to awaken dulled senses and recall sensations unfamiliar to our everyday life, we needed to return the body to a state of nothingness. By intentionally opening the senses slowly, visitors are guided to experience the process of layering their own “Layers of Sense.” Each floor was designed to awaken a different sensory dimension, while the staircase was conceived to foreshadow the experience of the next level. Every floor contains a distinct spatial and temporal context, allowing visitors to open their senses progressively and form deeper empathy with the space.
